3.Conclusion

3.1At the conclusion of the communication problem, WB should keep the communication fluency between managers and employees. The employees should have the negotiation power for the discount allowed for books; it is because the time taken for decision process of the customers can be reduced. Therefore, customers may be more willing to purchase the novels and may also leads to the increase of sale.

3.2The business can try to allocate a new pricing strategy. Based on they specialised the classical Chinese novels. This is known as a small and elastic market; thus higher price may still be acceptable for customers.

3.3Due to the interview and research, it is important for business to use relevant marketing mix and achieve a new brand image. Besides, the company value should also build upon to the employees. Employees should be more self-confident when they introduce the novel to the customers.

2.Finding and Discussion

2.1Communication fluency

Paul believed it is important to have a well-designed organization that defines the lines of authority and communication to fit the needs of the organization, customers and suppliers (Paul, 2002).

Therefore due to Paul’s comment, the manager of WB should communicate with the employees about the discount allowed to the customers before the exhibition started. Then the employees can negotiate and find an acceptable selling price for the company. Besides, a fluent communication between employees and the manger can also narrow down the time taken for the purchase process of the customers.

2.2 Target customers

In the context of a duopoly, they identify the conditions in which the desire for uniqueness can increase demand among some consumers as the price of a product increases. This desire for uniqueness leads to higher prices and firm profits, thus consumers purchase high-quality products not because of their desire for uniqueness but rather despite it (Amaldoss & Jain, 2005).

According to WB targets on the classical Chinese novel market, this market in the book market is quite elastic. Not many publish company print this type of book, therefore it is possible for the business to consider and change the price policy. It may be better off for the WB to set their book in high price level as the reason for consumer to purchase high-quality products is because of the desire of uniqueness (Amaldoss & Jain, 2005).

2.3 Build brand image

1.Introduction

This report will discuss the WB’s problem of communication of price in Taipei International Book Exhibition (TIBE) 2005. For this year’s exhibition, there was communication problem between the manager and the employees of WB. The main problem was related to the discount policy. Both employees and customers found the discount policy too complex to follow. In fact, it caused the sale volume to decrease tremendously.

Furthermore, TIBE was the one of the largest book exhibitions in Asia and it is an annual activity since 1987. For this year, nearly ninety hundred publishers from all over the world participated in the exhibition and WB was one of them. WB specialises on classical Chinese novels and participates the annual exhibition each year. The reason for WB to participate is because the exhibition is always a good opportunity to find foreigner customers. However, this year’s sale was the worst sale that WB has ever had.

It is necessary to question the company, why the sales have decreased tremendously?

Objectives to improve the recession of sales included:

lKeep communication fluent between departments.

lEvaluate the potential of the high pricing strategy.

lBuild brand image and the employees with self-confidence.

This report is about the problem occurred when there is a communication problem of pricing policy between departments. The pricing strategy was confused to the customers. Yet, employees were unable to negotiate the discount range to the customers. Should the employees ask the manager about the discounts allowed for every book sold?


The business should keep communication fluent between departments. As the company targets on the classical Chinese novel market and it only attracts small proportion of consumers. Thus the company should evaluate the potential of the high pricing strategy. Besides, brand image should be built. Train the employees with self-confident will help them to sell more efficiently.

Finally, business should be aware of the discount allowed. Excess discounts may impact the profits. Low selling price creates difficulties to cover the cost. It is also necessary to introduce the value of classical Chinese novel to the employees as training. Then the employees have confidence when they introduce the novel to the customers.

World Bookstore Ltd Sale Reduction

Class forum is an interesting activity. With class forum, I basically don’t have to worry about the time management. It is because the weekly task has managed that for me. The entire things I have to do, is just follow the time set by the forum and complete the weekly task, then it helps me to complete half of my assignment. I have never thought that class forum is unnecessary, because it really help a lot.

Another thing of class forum is, people are able to read your work, however, in my situation, not all the people in my group will read my work, and it is because people choose their own person to read. Therefore, sometime the feedback is not really relevant for my writing, because I don’t get the feedback from people.

Overall, class forum is useful and sometime, I will misunderstand the requirements, in the weekly task of the forum, there are always hints for the weekly task, especially for Monday one. Those hints provide me a better understand to the assignment. Furthermore, the hint for the weekly task due on Wednesday also helps me a lot. It is because when I judge people, I will question myself, have I met the requirements? Thus it is another way that class forum helps.

I suggest that class forum should set a rule about that students should give advice to the person who has not yet receive a feedback from others. It is because sometimes people give the feedback to one person, then others do not get the feedback at all. Thus, I suggest class forum can suggest to the student gives feed back to the person who have not give the feedback from, instead of giving the person who has get a feedback already.

Finally, this is the last refective journal, it really feel some sadness, thanks to the markers spent their time to read my journal.

This writing course really improves my writing skills a lot. It has an impact for my further life as well. The ‘Company Project’ from Accounting is a good evidence of how MCOM 104 helps! The strategies taught from the course such as the linking words. Run on sentence is another thing I become aware off.


Originally, I don’t understand the importance of the linking words. So my essay was usually lack of the flow. Audience usually found it hard to follow my thinking. But when I read a page about linking words from our course reading, I realised the importance of the linking words. Therefore when I write for my assignment, I start to think about how to use the linking words to make my assignment more logical.

Another useful thing I learnt from this course is stop to use the run on sentences. I have realised to make a sentence short and simple is more important to make the sentence long and complex. To stop use the run on sentences help my essay more clear and easier to read for the audience.

The weaknesses I still have are the grammar mistakes and sentences structure. In Chinese, we do not have the idea of the tenses. When we talk about the past, we just add a time frame at the beginning of the sentence. Thus the problem of tenses in English is really a problem for me. To improve this problem, I think it will be useful to read more English literature. Therefore I can be more familiar with the English writing style and this will help me to improve my writing skills.
